Jesus and the Argonauts

This week's message is about dealing with the distractions of life that take us off course from the life Jesus has for us.  The main passage is 1 Peter 1:13-21.  This week's message was preached by pastor Scott Furrow at the First Baptist Church of San Diego on September 4, 2016.  It aired on the radio in San Diego on September 11, 2016.

Ancient Greeks told stories about an Island of beautiful women who sang a song that was so beautiful, it enticed sailors to change course and head toward the tantalizing melody.  These women were known as Sirens and their songs were irresistible to most people.  But they were deceptive.  The island was surrounded by rocky shores and the sailors would crash their ships and die before reaching the Sirens.

In our life today, there are many Siren songs, things that are so tempting they can draw us away from what is best for us - and they lead to death and destruction.  In Peter's day, there were many similar distractions for Christians and he writes to help us stay on course with following Jesus.  This message will help you focus on Christ and be consumed by the beauty of the Gospel in your life.

Impressions and Immitations

The letter of 3rd John is often considered to be more like a postcard from the Apostle John.   But in this short letter, we receive a great message about how to keep the main thing the main thing, how the church can stay focused on the right things and how believers can follow Christ.  We see that there is a different between doing an impression of Jesus and imitating Jesus.  It's an important distinction.

This sermon was originally preached at the First Baptist Church of San Diego on April 17th, 2016 by Pastor Scott Furrow.  It aired on KNSN KBRITE AM 1240 Radio on July 24th, 2016.

Three Foundations from 2nd John

The letter of 2nd John is often considered to be more like a postcard from the Apostle John.   But in this short, often neglected letter, we get at least three important foundations of our Christian faith.  A foundation of Salvation, a foundation of Responsibility, and a Foundation of Purpose.   This letter is an encouragement to stay strong in our faith with these principles.

This sermon was originally preached at the First Baptist Church of San Diego on April 3rd, 2016 by Pastor Scott Furrow.  It aired on KNSN KBRITE AM 1240 Radio on June 5, 2016.
